Dinner at Bite Me Burger Co and Get Plucked Southampton

AD | David Michaels’ Australian burger and chicken joint has hit English shores and found its way out of the big smoke to my corner of Hampshire, Southampton.

Bite me Burger Co and Get Plucked combines witty branding and a wide variety of mini burgers and fried chicken in a new restaurant in the heart of city near Bedford Place on London Road.

And, aren’t I glad it has! I love a BIG eat, especially a good burger.

Take a look at the mini burger revolution…

Mini Burgers

Once the stronghold of press launches and fancy restaurants the mini burger has come a long, long way.

Now Bite Me are using this smaller burgers to bring plenty of flavour to the humble American standard beef patty.

Bigger doesn’t always mean better!

The array of different toppings, buns and sauces is insane and there’s plenty of scope for the vegan and vegetarian crowd too.

The team at Bite Me Burger Co and Get Plucked treated* me, and my other half Henry, to an absolute feast. I could not move a muscle when I rolled out of the door at the end of the evening.

Cheers – The coconut shake was yummy!

Happy face shortly followed by brain freeze face…

Brain freeze – when you drink something cold way too quickly!

What did I eat?

What didn’t I eat! 😂😂😂

Mini burgers come as a duo, trio, quad, dozen or twenty four! I had hesitations thinking that two mini burgers wouldn’t be much food – oh how wrong could one person be! The mini burgers are still quite big and VERY filling.

I went for The BC (bacon cheese), Aged grilled Galician beef patty, cream cheese aioli, bacon, brie and crispy onion, and the Pluck Me, buttermilk fried chicken, yuzu mayo shredded lettuce and pickle.

The flavours really pack a punch and are quite rich so are very satisfying.

I have never had a cream cheese aioli in a burger and it added a gorgeous creamy texture and taste that you just don’t get from normal melted cheese.

The beef patty was really well cooked too, not over done but juicy and just right.

FYI – I’m not a fan of restaurants that don’t cook their burgers properly – there’s a reason burgers need to be cooked all the way through. Can you tell my Mum was a chef and hot on her food hygiene? I grew up in a restaurant environment so it’s literally etched on my brain. 😅😅😅

I was so pleased that Bite Me said that they cook all their burgers well done unless instructed otherwise.

I really enjoyed the burgers they were very tasty, well cooked and I absolutely love the different types available. Next on my list to try would be the Bloody Mary, a burger topped with a special Bloody Mary sauce, and the Codzilla, deep fried cod fingers, mayo and ketchup. (And, the Hail Caesar, Duck Me, Jack Daniels and Lambtastic – who said being indecisive is a bad thing? Yes, I will have to work my way through the menu!)

My second burger was the Pluck Me and I am here for that yuzu mayonnaise – like the cream cheese aioli it really added that special unexpected ‘something’.

All my reviews are honest so I have to say that both burgers were a little greasy which made it quite a heavy eat, delicious but heavy. Look, you know I have to be straight up with you, Henry had an opposite opinion to me. The waitress did give me a heads up at the start and said the chicken option can be grilled.

Sides

I have no chip on my shoulder when it comes to the fries! Oh DANG – they have nailed them, so tasty.

Our other side was the BBQ black and pinto beans, this is a MUST ORDER. I totally fell in love with these1 😍😍😍

A message to the Get Plucked team, please give me the recipe, I want to eat these every day forever onwards. I don’t know what they put in the sauce, chopped coriander perhaps? But, oh man, I could have polished off a bowl of these to myself without any trouble. I even fought Henry for the last fork full!

A great non-alcoholic beer option is also on the menu!

Chicken Cones

One of the specialities of the Get Plucked Menu is the chicken cones, there’s even a giant replica of one stuck to the wall.

We also ordered a Buffalo Blue, a chicken cone where the chicken is fried, covered in spicy buffalo sauce and drizzled in blue cheese dressing – YUM. I’ve never had anything in a thin pressed waffle before other than ice cream. I was so worried it was going to be sweet 😂😂😂.

Of course, it wasn’t and if you don’t want a bun this felt like a great option as it was absolutely filled to the brim with chicken!

Inside the restaurant

A big bold red decor greets you, lots of fun pictures, quotes and ‘burger foliage’ and ‘chicken cones’ adorn the wall for a quirky setting. Some of the pictures are just brilliant!

Communal tables sit alongside bar style seating and more intimate tables and there’s a long bar too. Look up to see burger bun lamp shades!

Bite Me and Get Plucked

So plucking good! What a fun new restaurant to discover, I really want to go back with a group of friends and get the giant order of 24 mini burgers now – there’s so many other flavours I want to try. And, that’s just from Bite Me.

From Get Plucked I’m keen to try the wings and Hen-niffer Lopez, a Buffalo Blue Plucker: chicken, buffalo sauce, blue cheese dressing and buttermilk slaw.

Oh, and another thing I should mention is that, the staff were really good at going through the menu with me so I could figure out what I could eat with my raw onion allergy. It really makes a difference when you’re not made to feel like a burden!

I’m pleased for a bit of diversity in the restaurant scene in Southampton, especially one offering a twist on a classic dish we know and love. Let me know if you visit and what you try, especially if it’s the Eat Me Challenge!

The Bite Me Challenge!

What a plucking great evening!

*PR Gifted Review Visit – HOWEVER, as I always say, all opinions are MY OWN, otherwise what’s the point?
