WEEK THREE OF THE #YOGAGIRLCHALLENGE 2018

Find out how I got on in my third week of the #yogagirlchallenge to do #yogaeverydamnday during September.

‘If it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you’ – this is this week’s mantra.

After a turbulent September I realised that the theme for the month was challenge and change. My month on the mat wasn’t going to be straight forward or easy.

My yoga time wasn’t going to improve, it was going to be a daily fight to do anything. And that is ok – life doesn’t go smoothly. As a result I decided to focus on simple block work to improve my flexibility and try and give my body some chance to decompress from what was going on.

The block felt right as it was supportive and meant I could do a shorter routines with a few simple moves. Thanks to stress all my muscles had tensed and become even tighter than before so I progress was always going to be slow.

I couldn’t focus and I couldn’t relax. These block sessions were frustrating. I swore. I threw my block off the mat. I acted like a child! I cursed myself. I was hard on myself. I was angry, sad and everything in-between. I was also annoyed at myself for not being able to commit fully to the challenge and that I’d let my body go, and my yoga slip. That I wasn’t as good as I used to be. I struggled to focus and complete a vinyasa, or any flow-sequence.

The frustration at everything, bubbled up from my chest and there were many, many tears.

Tears bought a release and a clarity to my situation – to mourn the past and move on. Challenge and change. I needed to be challenged and I needed change. The change brought challenges and what I began to realise is that it was good thing. Evolution is a big part of life and it was time for me to change.

Did I do much yoga this week? No, but I started processing everything that was going on in my life.Β I can’t wait for time to pass, because as we all know time is a great healer, and to be in a happier place on the mat.
