Take a look at what I’ve been up to in the last week of the #yogagirlchallenge.
Day 25- My knee niggle has gone! 😅😅😅After a very unsure beginning to my HIIT session my leg held out – hooray. I am massively relieved! Rest worked- phew! 👌🏻
When you’re getting back into exercise it’s so easy to pick up injuries. I’ve been religious about warming up and warming down so when I got my knee niggle before the weekend I was really upset that it might disrupt my progress.
Thankfully I had two days of rest scheduled and I altered my Friday exercise to be more floor based to take the weight off the strained muscle.
I think the combination of the regular yoga and warm ups/downs definitely stopped this from becoming a full blown injury.
This chillout one was so good, not only did it relax me but I also learnt some new moves like the one in the picture. It’s called threading the needle – you’ll have to ignore my face! 🙄It’s a fab hip opener and stretch.
The whole session was just what I needed. 🙏 I found it helpful to pause it and spend a bit longer in each stretch. ✨ I think if you’re new to yoga it’s a great way to help your muscles lengthen and get used to the positions.
I really needed today’s practice. There’s a lot of worry and anxiety at the moment and having a way to combat it is a blessing. I feel like yoga is becoming my power tool. 💎A hidden gem to give my head and body the space it needs to cope. ✨
Tuesday 26 September
Day 26 – My motivation is high today so I tried one of @shona_vertue‘s proper yoga practices. It was a 10 minute yoga session and it was so fast. I only just managed to keep up.
Although I found it very fast paced I learnt a new move, that’s the picture above. I’ve no idea what it’s called but it felt lovely!
I’ve included me doing the moves and how it’s meant to be with pics of Shona (so you can see how it’s really done! 😂).
This yoga session felt good, fast but good. It was more like a work out I had started to sweat by the end! 😅
I feel really happy and relaxed now, both my fitness and yoga went well tonight. Here’s to more nights like this one. 🙌🏻
I’ve been back on the wagon food wise for six weeks and back on the fitness wagon for a week and to be honest I don’t know why I ever stopped. I’m starting to wonder why I stopped! Oh life! 😂
It’s becoming routine again and the aches and pains are already not as bad as the first week! Of course, daily yoga is helping massively with that! 🙌🏻
Wednesday 27 September
Day 27 – Release your inner warrior! 💪🏻 Today I did lots of different things to try and improve poses in my practice.
I’m trying to be more aware of my body and what it’s doing in each pose. 📸 Taking pictures helps as I’ve been able to review my position, so taking pictures for the blog has actually been more helpful than I ever thought it would. 📸
Daily exercise and yoga is really starting to iron out my mindset and today I feel stronger mentally. 💪🏻 I dealt with things better and as I’m writing this my post exercise high of endorphins is giving me a brain boost.
I also got good news, my new gym is opening and I received the timetable. There are lots of yoga classes and this makes me so excited. They’re doing a form of yoga called Yin, I’ve never heard of that before so I can’t wait to look into that to fin out what it is.
I’m looking forward to starting that next week but in the mean time I’ve got something coming your way from an actual yoga teacher to help you get started on your yoga journey! So keep your eye out for that soon. ✌🏻🌸🙏
Thursday 28 September
We spent time talking about the origins of yoga, the meaning of practice and doing some poses. She helped me master my down 🐶 dog, an essential yoga pose.
It was really cool talking to her about yoga and getting a better understanding of the ethos.
I forgot how fun it is to mess around trying things out and learning what works for you and your body with someone else with the same mindset. ✨🙏✨
This was a great evening. I’m such a social bunny so I really enjoy being with people to practice.✨🙏✨
We also went through her top three yoga tips for beginners. I think they are real gems and will help anyone get into the right mindset to start yoga. 💪🏻 Keep your eye out for the blog post which will be coming soon! 🙏
Friday 29 September
Day 29- Only one day left! 😮I can’t believe the month is almost up!
By the time I’d got home and done my HIIT it was so late. I had to run some errands in town so this pushed my normal routine right back!
It was too dark to grab a picture outside so I’m using one from yesterday as it shows what I did tonight perfectly. It was a very short practice again but, I went through my down dog and held the position to start lengthening my calf muscles.
It was great after HIIT at stretching my calf muscles out after lots of burpees and jump squats. I felt a lot more confident knowing the position I need to be in and the focus I need to place in balancing my weight, pulling up my hips and relaxing my legs, shoulders and head.
This picture shows several variations of down dog. Going from tip toes and releasing the breath helps you to come down and lengthen the calf stretch. @jeneenthomsen taught me this yesterday, she also told me to be patient and kind to myself. She’s totally right.
I was wrecked tonight but even doing a little downward dog and taking five minutes helped. I didn’t do much more as I think I’m done for the week- it’s time for a brew and a wind down! Feeling super calm, night you beauts! ✨🌙✨
Saturday 30 September
Day 30 – I can’t believe it’s the end of the #yogaeverydamnday #yogagirlchallenge. I feel happy to achieved it but also sad it will be gone tomorrow. I definitely feel I’ve improved in areas and can’t wait to see where my yoga journey takes me next. A month of yoga has flown by and I’m going to keep practising. I don’t think I have the right words to explain the highs and lows this month of yoga has seen. 💕🙌🏻🙏
On the very last day, and I practised three legged dog. I find this hard and I can feel my quads moving when I do it! But it’s so good to push myself, I already feel like I’m improving and getting stronger everyday. 🙏💕
What feels like the end is often the beginning. I feel like this quote sums up the end of this challenge. For me, it’s not the end. I’m going to keep going!
I can’t believe the whole month is over. It feels so strange it’s done but I’m so proud that I managed to do some yoga every day.
I spent lots of time reflecting over my month and I still don’t feel I’ve got the right words to explain myself. It’s done so much like give me headspace, get me back on track with my fitness and helped me avoid injury.
It’s also made me feel more like myself, probably because all those things are getting me back on track and where I want to be with my body. I knew it had been getting me down but I didn’t realise to what extent. My outlook has been better since I’ve been more proactive and committed to getting myself back on track.
I still think it’s going to take me a while to get where I want to be but, I’m a lot more at peace now I’ve started the journey. There’s so many great elements to yoga and I feel like I’m only just starting to discover them all.
Have you been following my journey? If so, what do you think? Has it inspired you to take up yoga or at least try it?
If you’ve been doing the challenge, I’d love to see what you’ve been doing please share your links with me and tell me what you’ve found good or tough throughout the month.
